I've been wondering for a while whether I should bother with an intake heat shield. I understand the concept of keeping hot air from directly radiating onto the filter, but in all honestly, do these products really work? I mean, unless you've completely sealed off the filter from the hot air, the suction from your motor will inevitably draw in hot air anyways, right?
Here is a product by Injen that I was looking at. I'd really appreciate everyone's opinion on this.

I would stay away from a metal heat shield because metal absorbs heat! My first custom intake heat shield was made out of metal and it was hot to the touch when the engine bay is hot. I later changed the material to plastic and it works a lot better. The heat shield will block the hot air blowing through the radiator when the fan is on, as well as hot air under the hood. I also added an air duct that draws air from between the front bumper grill and directs it to the air filter.

Does anyone have any datalogging or intake temp measurements on these benefits?
